Spiritual warfare is real, and removing the coping mechanisms of pornography, masturbation, and other forms of sexual acting out forces us to face our wounds. We will want to do almost anything to escape this discomfort like a rat trapped in a burning bucket.
The trick though is that porn, masturbation, and other means of sexual acting out are only painkillers that leave us trapped in the bucket, being burned alive, growing ever more miserable and wretched in sin.
Cooperating with God’s grace to heal our wounds and struggles is how we surrender our suffering to God. As we surrender our will to his divine will, the bucket cools and lifts. We see life with new clarity in a state of peace and contentment.
Even when things heat up, we can surrender all to God, the heat will eventually subside, and our clarity of the beauty of God’s creation will return.
