Place your mind squarely on Jesus. See him laying on the cross suffering for the sin you’re wanting to commit. See the nail you’re driving in with every lustful thought and action. The agony you’re causing him as his body writhes and face contorts. The spear you’re driving into his side to ensure your twisted victory.
Now instead surrender your will by speaking his holy name of ‘Jesus’ with all your heart. Allow his blood and the water from his side to wash over you and cleanse you of this temptation. Focus all your mind on the infinite love of Christ displayed in his suffering for your salvation. And cooperate with his grace by halting your sinful behavior in its tracks.
The more often you train your mind on Christ, the less often your flesh will drag you to sin. Jesus taught us to pray without ceasing, and this can be as simple as saying quietly and reverently, “Jesus, help me.”
